Outjo Book Project

My sister in law, Amanda, is currently in the Peace Corp serving in Nambia. She blogs about her experience at TIN-THIS IS NAMBIA. She is the first Peace Corp worker to ever be in the area. She works at the local hospital, does HIV outreach programs, started a garden project for the HIV support group and coordinates Camp Glow which is a leadership camp for Namibian youth. Her mother, Leslie, is a first grade teacher in Merced. She had an idea to collect used books and ship them over to Nambia so that Amanda could give them to local schools. Leslie expected around 50 books and planned to donate the shipping costs herself. The response from the children and families at the elementary school was overwhelming. She collected over 2000 books. Being as each box of books costs around $50 the shipping has been a slow process. Amanda recently recieved the first 1000 or so books. She wrote about the Outjo Book Project in her blog. Clayton liked helping Grandma sort and package the books. He was in book heaven!
